Buyers Guide

What materials are outdoor football tables made from?

An outdoor football table can be made from a variety of weatherproof materials and finishes. The three most common, and in price-order, are; marine ply, thermoplastic resin, and the more expensive treated metal option. Aluminium or treated steel is the most robust and most heavy-duty, but not always the most budget-friendly. The Thermoplastic resin is a great and more affordable alternative and tends to be the most common market.

This weatherproofing ensures that your table can take on the elements and prevents rust and corrosion. It’s this that separates an outdoor football table from an indoor one and exactly why they tend to demand a higher price tag.

Solid rods v telescopic

You will find that each football table comes with one of two different types of rods; solid and telescopic. Solid rods provide better stability and control and tend to be more hard-wearing, so they are an obvious choice. Telescopic are usually the preferred option for those with young children, as they are considered safer. This is because the far end of the rod on the opposite side of the player retracts into the table without poking out. The main thing to consider, whether you choose solid or telescopic, is the material used. Always look for weatherproof coating or materials such as steel or chromium.

Can indoor football tables be used outdoors?

In short, no. Indoor football tables are made from entirely different materials and have not been subject to weather or waterproofing. Taking your indoor table outside will result in corrosion, rust and general wear and tear very quickly. Remember that an outdoor table can be used indoors, so it makes for a better investment.

What is a full-sized football table?

An outdoor football table can come in many different shapes and sizes, including permanent fixtures and those designed for portability. The standard size tends to range between 54 inches and 60 inches. When a table is advertised as full-sized, its dimensions should be in the region of 56 inches by 36 inches. Although this is the preferred size for competitive gameplay and the ideal playing experience, it’s not always possible in areas short of space.
